PAOLA VIGNOLA
Let´s play to art
My work stems from the intersection of restoration, design, and painting. I define myself as an experimental artist who investigates the memory of images, moving between classical figuration and stark abstraction.
I don't understand the canvas as a mere image, but as a physical surface, an object-matter. Each work is a stage for transformation where acrylic, plaster or similar materials, and volumetric reliefs engage in intense dialogue.
My approach focuses on the contemporary reactivation of historical images and on surface wear, using my restoration skills as a metaphor: fragmentation, repair, and new textures that endow figures from our cultural past with a contemporary identity.
Contemporary reactivation
The historical reinterpretation (such as the figure of the Courtesan, Still-Life, Fruits..) and material abstraction are not separate paths, but rather converge.
I treat figures and iconic objects from the past not only as forms, but as historical presences that are intervened upon through matter.
My focus is on contemporary reactivation of historical images and their surface wear,
using my restoration skills as a metaphor: fragmentation, repair, and new textures that imbue
figures from our cultural past with a contemporary identity.
Moving towards abstraction art street, which gradually materializes into imaginary figures.
Matter and Abstraction
Through bold blocks of color, geometric compositions, plaster, pigments, and thick reliefs, I explore the dialogue between chaos and order.
Texture is the protagonist, inviting the viewer to approach and experience the tension of the surface.
Matter in Water
Abstraction plunges into a sea of colors and materializes in elements related to water.
Water
Figurative abstraction
Abstraction materialized in unreal, exotic faces

About me

Paola Vignola, an Italian multidisciplinary artist based in Barcelona. My work is a vibrant dialogue between fashion design, restoration, and contemporary painting. With a background that combines the structure of Milan with the creative freedom of Barcelona, my artistic practice is characterized by a bold use of color and a clear intention: to transform spaces through visual energy. My style, which navigates between naiveté and abstraction, avoids labels to focus on the emotional capacity of pigment, offering works that breathe freshness, imagination, innocence, vitality, and a skillful combination of color, reliefs, and textures.
For years I dedicated myself to furniture restoration, transforming pieces, in many cases, into small works of art. From this experience, I also began to create and renew picture frames, updating old and mundane pieces to fully integrate them into the visual language of my paintings. Through my social media, especially on Instagram @paolavignolaartista and @restauraconpaola, I share the transformation and creation processes of my pieces, showcasing the dialogue between art, restoration, and contemporary design. My works are designed to renovate interiors, such as homes, offices, shops, and creative spaces.
